Day 135 – Mexico DF – Mazunte

We left at half past 9 this morning and walked to the Casa Azul (the blue house), the house where Frida Kahlo lived with Diego Rivera which is now a museum.
The way took us through our neighborhood and again we found it to be extremely beautiful.

Being in Frida’s house was maybe the most emotional experience yet. Seeing where they lived, reading about her life, seeing where she painted and with which colours, strolling around the absolutely amazing garden-patio and the different rooms, where many famous artists and other personalities (like Trotzky) have lived over the years, felt very special.

Unfortunately, we had to hurry a little as we were moving on to our next destination today. On our way back, we took in a last breath of Coyoacán with its markets and colorful houses and plants. Back home, Toño came to pick us up immediately and took us to the airport.

After check-in, we found out that our flight was delayed 1,5 hours. The moment we had settled to eat something and kill some time, it was de-delayed and boarding but when we sat in the plane they still had to fill in some gas, so in the end we left around 5 for Huatulco, where we arrived at 6.
During the flight we had some great views of the volcano Popocatepetl, the enourmous Mexico City and in the end the Pacific coast and it’s green mountains.

Huatulco received us at it’s small airport with roofs made of straw with 33°C and a very high humidity. We took a taxi-van to our destination Mazunte, a little village at the seaside and checked into our accommodation. We have a little apartment in the middle of banana plants and palmtrees with 5 rooms on two floors, made of wood and straw.

It was hot, it was humid, everything was sticky and I got bit by 3 mosquitos in the first 5 minutes. We settled down, prepared our bodies with tons of toxic anti-mosquito-spray and went our to see the ocean as the sun went down and the full-moon up.

The waves seemed to be very high and strong and the water warm. We sat down in a bar next to the beach and had some drinks while enjoying the ventilator’s wind.

We moved on through the little village with its tropical plants, little apartments and bars and found a restaurant. I had enough energy to ask about ingredients today and ate a pretty delicious fish with vegetables and potatoes.

We were pretty tired and started our way back home but didn’t get there as early as expected because we came by a bar with live music and stayed there for a little while listening (and writing this blog).

We finally went home after midnight and started operation anti-mosquito with lots of toxic spray and anti-mosquito-spray, shaking Moskito nets and killing some cockroaches in the bathroom.

I went to bed extremely sticky, sweaty, toxic and disgusting, which I generally never do, but too tired and lazy to shower and tried to ignore the sound of the ventilator and exotic birds outside and get some sleep.

I'm Anna and I decided to leave everything behind and travel for a few months in order to reorganize my life.
