For some unidentified reason, I got up in a bad mood and in a completely disfuncional state today.
When I had first arrived in Zagreb two days ago and had been trying to find out how to get a ticket for the tram, I had talked to a very nice girl who was an speleologist and had recommended me to visit a cave on Medvednitza mountain. The cave had turned out to be closed after some research but I had decided to climb that mountain anyway and visit the castle on top of it. So that was my plan for today.
Switching between map, tram map and Google maps, I made my way to the center and took a tram leaving the city. Then another tram which took me to the foot of the mountain. I found myself in a suburb residential area with lots of green and gardens and tried to find the path going up. Like always, signs ended the second I started to need them. However, I had a map and walked on for a bit, not motivated at all. While walking, I was thinking about the following days and how I had only 2 days left and when I realized that, I realized that I should be actually working rather than indecisively walking through some random forest. So I turned around, walked to the tram again, took the tram and another tram and walked to the hostel where I spent the rest of the noon working on my presentation.
The excursion had been completely stupid and unnecessary but who knows, maybe a Yeti would have eaten me if I had gone on (or something like that) …

At around 5, with a good amount of work done, I met up with Ivana, the Croatian girl from Zagreb which I had met in Albania a few days (weeks?) ago. She took me to a very nice and enormous park where we had a drink and talked for a few hours. This clearly saved my day and I came home in a completely restored good mood even though I feel sorry about moving on tomorrow. This city – as so many other places I have visited – definitely deserves a longer visit and I can only recommend Zagreb to anyone. It’s big but doesn’t feel overwhelming, it has lots of incredibly beautiful parks, it’s full of colorful flowers and has lots of culture to offer. I will definitely come back here to see all the stuff I had wanted to see and didn’t manage to visit.
