I think that for a journey like this, there is a start prior to the actual, physical start of traveling. Which is why I have decided to start my blog now, two weeks before heading off.
I don’t remember the exact moment I decided I needed to move, but it wasn’t really long ago. Just 6 months ago I started this whole new life, finding a nice flat in which I never really got to feel at home, buying lots of stuff that I am now selling and giving away again and building up new routines that I didn’t have enough time to get attached to or even like very much.
However, if you’re not happy you have to do something about it, no matter how luminous and well located the new flat, or how new your new blender or heater or towels or whatever else you bought to make yourself comfortable.
So here I am. Two weeks ago, I quit my job(s), my flat, and several other contracts, and started drawing maps in my journal, reading a lot and marking train and bus lines between places I want to visit. I also started to sell stuff or trade it for big suitcases, squeeze everything I have into them and figure out where to leave all these things I own while I’m gone (thankfully there are very nice people who are making some room!).

The closer I’m moving towards march 31, the more serious are getting the preparations and good-byes. Over all this planning and arranging I constantly forget one big milestone I still have to complete before starting: on April 1st I will defend my master’s thesis in front of the university’s tribunal in Madrid. My starting point after that is Athens where I’ll get on April 2nd.
I will write in this blog as often as I can and it is a way for me to remember and express my personal experiences and to share them with my family and friends. This blog is publicly accessible, but, as I explained in the introduction, I have personally given out the links and would appreciate if you asked me before handing it on to other people. If you want to be notified by mail when I put something new online, you can subscribe here.
“See” you soon 🙂

Haha, defending master thesis and leave directly the whole country seems like a great plan.
Liebe Anna, ich wünsche dir ganz viele tolle Erfahrungen und dass wir uns bald wiedersehen. Ich könnte so etwas nue machen aber beneide doch jeden darum, der es tut. Ganz viel Liebe und Reis mit lachs
